Oversized, Boxy, or Regular? A Guide to Modern T-Shirt Fits

When you choose a t-shirt, you're not just choosing a color or a graphic. You're choosing how it fits you, how it moves with you, and what image it conveys of you.

And this is where fits come into play: oversized, boxy and regular.

Many use them as synonyms, but in reality they are three different constructions, with completely different effects on the style, comfort and perception of the garment.

In this guide, we'll explain what each fit really means, when to use it, and why we at Stritz choose them so carefully.

What is a t-shirt fit, really?

Fit is not size.

It is the shape of the garment when it is worn.

Two size M t-shirts can fit completely differently because:

  • they have different widths
  • shoulders positioned differently
  • different lengths and proportions

And this is precisely where the difference between regular, oversized and boxy arises.

Regular fit – the “classic” t-shirt

Regular is the most common fit.

How does it fit:

  • shoulders in natural position
  • average width
  • standard length

It's the t-shirt that:

  • follows the body without tightening
  • it is neither wide nor short
  • it is neutral and clean

When is it ideal:

  • company uniforms
  • merchandising
  • clean and tidy look
  • who doesn't want something too fashionable

It's the fit that never fails, but it doesn't communicate style.

Oversize – comfort and streetwear

Oversized doesn't mean "one size bigger."

This means that the pattern is designed to be wide.

How does it fit:

  • dropped shoulders
  • longer sleeves
  • wide body
  • longer length

The effect is:

  • relaxed
  • urban
  • modern

It's the most loved fit in streetwear because:

  • it falls better on the body
  • mask the shapes
  • creates interesting volumes

Many of our Stritz collections use this fit.

Boxy – short, wide, designer

The boxy is the most “fashionable” fit.

How does it fit:

  • very wide
  • dropped shoulders
  • shorter length
  • almost square shape

It's a t-shirt that doesn't try to elongate the body, but to give presence.

It is used by:

  • streetwear brand
  • premium collections
  • fashion brand

Gives a look:

  • decided
  • contemporary
  • editorial

It's not for everyone, but when it works… it works like a charm.

Because we at Stritz choose them based on the project

When we create a collection or a production for a client, we don't just choose the color or the fabric.

We choose the fit because:

changes how the brand is perceived

changes how it is worn

changes if the item looks promotional or fashion

A gym will need a different fit than a streetwear brand.

A summer venue that's different from a festival.

And that's why in our lab we don't use "one size fits all."

In summary

  • Regular = clean, classic, safe
  • Oversize = comfortable, modern, street
  • Boxy = fashionable, bold, designer

Now when you look at a t-shirt… you really know what you're looking at.
